History

History

The Graduate Institute of Health Services Administrations was founded in 1984 and was the first of its kind in Taiwan. This institute has cultivated many high ranking health services and administration professionals in government and industry. As Taiwan’s National Health Insurance started in 1995, the needs of basic hospital administration professionals grew rapidly. Our institute established the undergraduate program to meet the needs of administration manpower in health care services in 1996, and the name of the institute changed to the Department of Health Services Administration. In 2006, the program of Executive Master of Health Services Administration (EMHA) was started to cultivate distinguished professional managers in health services administration.

 

Mission

The Department of Health Services Administration strives to foster healthcare administration and management professionals with our comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs, respectively. We emphasize our training from the theoretical as well as the practical aspects in order to achieve the following:

  • Cultivate skilled and professional talents in health services administration.
  • Enable graduate students to gain problem-solving and research abilities.
  • Develop their competency in policy-making for industrial and governmental settings.

 
Objectives

Undergraduate Program (BS): to set a firm foundation in the fundamental knowledge of health services administration, and to enhance the supply of health services administrators and workforce Master’s Program (MHA): to train students into becoming proficient individuals with effective problem-solving skills in health services administration Executive Master’s Program (EMHA): to cultivate professionals with managerial qualifications and capabilities in health services administration.

 

Students and Alumni

In 2020-2021, the Department of Health Services Administration has 143 undergraduate students, 30 master’s students, and 53 executive master’s students. Currently, it has a total of 1,618 alumni, including 610 BS, 540 MHA and 161 EMHA graduates.

Career Opportunities

Health Services Administration (HSA) graduates have taken positions in local or national government agencies, like the Nation Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) and its branches, public policy research institutes, community health centers, hospitals, healthcare administration consulting companies, pharmaceutical companies, and other healthcare-related institutes. Others have continued to pursue doctoral and fellowship programs.

HSA graduates that work in hospital settings can be found in departments include: 
general affairs, human resources, procurement (purchasing) and storage, medical records management, information services, accounting, teaching and research, medical administration, planning, material management, registration and billing, medical quality and patient safety management, and public relations.
